Well it hasn’t been easy; then again, trying to ranch through a drought never is, but I think things have turned out okay. That decade of lean years did wonders for the prices of hay (though any profit I may have gained was drained dry by the cost of irrigation). I’m sure that Wyoming has seen its fair share of droughts before, so this couldn’t have been anything new for this part of the country. Unfortunately, it must have been a new experience for plenty of the ranchers in the area, because during the peak years of dryness, I noticed quite a few wyoming ranches for sale.

I don’t blame anyone for packing it up; it’s a tough hand to be dealt especially when your operation wasn’t bringing in a good profit before the dry spell. I am sure glad that we made it through though, and I am happy to spread the word that the rains and winter snows are back and better than ever!
